CORE VACCINES FOR DOGS AND PUPPIES

Important Note

Please confirm these guidelines with your vet as some. Some clinics may have a vaccine that will last for one year, while another clinic will have the same vaccine that lasts three years. Core vaccines are recommended for all puppies and dogs with an unknown vaccination history. The diseases involved have significant morbidity and mortality and are widely distributed, and in general, vaccination results in relatively good protection from disease. These include vaccines
for canine parvovirus (CPV), canine distemper virus (CDV), canine adenovirus (CAV), and rabies.

 

DISTEMPTER

A viral infection that can affect several body systems, including the respiratory and nervous systems.
Vaccination: 
1st vaccination at 6 to 8 weeks, followed by additional vaccinations at 3 to 4 week intervals until 14 to 16 weeks old; booster at 1 year, then every 3 years or more

HEPATITIS

A viral infection that causes liver inflammation
Vaccination: 1st vaccination at 6 to 8 weeks, followed by additional vaccinations at 3 to 4 week intervals until 14 to 16 weeks old; booster at 1 year, then every 3 years or more (Usually given as a combination vaccine with Distemper)

 

FELINE PANLEUKOPENBIS
(Feline Distemper)

Also known as Herpes Virus, and is extremely contagious primarily through contaminated surfaces or litter boxes. It often results in severe illness and can be fatal for kittens:
Symptoms: fever, poor appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, abdominal pain,
tremors an lack of coordination, brain infection and heart damage.

PAROVIRUS

A viral infection that can affect many body systems including the respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems
Vaccinations: 1st vaccination at 6 to 8 weeks, followed by additional vaccinations at 3 to 4 week intervals until 14 to 16 weeks old; booster at 1 year, then every 3 years or more (Usually given as a combination vaccine with Distemper)

 

LEPTOSPIROSIS

A bacterial infection of the urinary system
Vaccinations: Two doses, 2 to 4 weeks apart; annual re-vaccination; used in areas with a known risk

 

 

RABIES

A viral disease of the nervous system that is both fatal and a zoonotic disease, meaning it is transmissible to people
Vaccinations: Initial vaccination as early as 3 months of age; boosters at 1 year and every 1 to 3 years after that, depending on local laws.
