FELINE VIRAL RHINOTRACHEITIS (FVR)
is a highly-transmissible virus spread to cats through aerosol or droplets. FVR can cause ulcers of the eye, irreversible damage to nasal sinuses and fatality. Persistent infection may reoccur during times of stress.
Symptoms: runny nose, sneezing, eye infection, eye ulcers, poor appetite, fever and lung infection.
FELINE CALICIVIRUS
This virus can survive on contaminated surfaces, or be spread through aerosol or droplets. This virus is not necessarily caught through direct contact, making it highly contagious, causing painful mouth ulcers/oral disease or fatality in cats. Persistent infection may reoccur during times of stress.
Symptoms: runny nose, eye infection, mouth ulcers, poor appetite, fever, lung infection and lameness.
FELINE PANLEUKOPENBIS
(Feline Distemper)
Also known as Herpes Virus, and is extremely contagious primarily through contaminated surfaces or litter boxes. It often results in severe illness and can be fatal for kittens:
Symptoms: fever, poor appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, abdominal pain,
tremors an lack of coordination, brain infection and heart damage.
FELINE LEUKEMIA VIRUS
(FeLV)
This virus causes illness similar to a dog’s ParoVirus, and is contracted through droplets, sharing food or water bowls, or saliva while grooming. Immuno-suppression
may activate a silent infection, and result in further complications or clinical signs. It affects the immune, gastrointestinal and nervous system.
Symptoms: cancerous tumors, leukemia and chronic infections due to immune system suppression.RABIES spreads through the nerves to the brain with progressive disease resulting in death. It is contracted from the bite of an infected animal or through infected saliva contact with mucous membranes. Rabies is a zoonotic disease. death, restlessness, irritability, inability to swallow and paralysis.
FELINE INFECTIOUS PERITONITIS
(FIP)
Cats are commonly exposed to an enteric coronavirus through feces in shared litter boxes. FIP is a mutation of the coronavirus which allows it to gain systemic dissemination throughout the body causing progressive illness resulting in death.
Symptoms: respiratory infection, diarrhea, eye damage, nervous system damage and
fluid collection in body cavities.
